Grant Writing Consultant

Location: Remote

Type: Contractor

Experience: Mid--level

Compensation: $60 per hour

Position Overview: Gray Ink is actively seeking a Grant Writing Consultant to join our team to support Senior Consultants on developing proposals and collateral across our portfolio. As a Consultant, you will be responsible for a slate of clients, working collaboratively with Senior Consultants to develop materials for their institutional funding requests. We work with most of our clients in the long term, requiring that long-term relationships are cultivated and managed with the utmost respect.

Outstanding candidates bring an interest in revenue generation, a diverse background, and a passion for strengthening organizations to advance their missions. Candidates need to be knowledgeable in grant writing, experienced in working with clients across cultural differences, self-driven, and collaborative team members. Ideal candidates will have experience in economic development and/or innovation funding and have deep experience pursuing federal funding.

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented grant writer to join our team on a contract basis. The ideal candidate will:

  • Manage the full lifecycle of grant writing projects: from researching and identifying potential funders, writing compelling proposals, to submission and follow-up.

  • Leverage strategic and critical thinking to align funding opportunities with client goals and needs, and effectively communicate these alignments in proposals.

  • Write clearly, persuasively, and effectively: capable of crafting strong narratives, demonstrating impact, and articulating complex ideas for various audiences.

  • Stay adaptable and resourceful: able to navigate changing priorities, different client needs, and diverse funding landscapes while maintaining a solution-oriented mindset.

  • Collaborate with clients and internal teams: working closely with executives and project leaders to refine strategies, address funder feedback, and adjust proposals for the best chance of success.

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience development proposals for large, institutional opportunities for nonprofit and/or forprofit entities as both an individual and a member of a team. You will need experience with at least six-figure proposals, and ideally have experience specifically with federal proposals.

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff, including executives and coordinators.

  • Outstanding project management skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Excellent ability to develop and argument and tell a story in writing, leveraging data as needed to strengthen the argument.

  • Computer proficiency with specific capacity to use the tools necessary to manage work remotely (Google Drive, Dropbox, Zoom, Google Meets, Airtable, etc.).

  • Ideally: experience writing grants for forprofit innovation funding.

We aim to have equity woven throughout our work and are dedicated to recruiting a team with the diverse experiences necessary for us to effectively accomplish this goal. While experience in revenue generation is critical for a Grant Writing Consultant role, lived experience in the communities our clients serve is prioritized.
